The appellation is classified in 1985 in the French wine-growing region of Languedoc . Is an enclave within the range of the AC Fitou . The vineyards of Corbières include 14,000 hectares of vineyards inland from Narbonne on the Mediterranean coast 50 miles. The large area with 87 municipalities is divided on the basis of the different conditions in 11 sub-areas. These are Boutenac, Durban, Fontfroide, Lagrasse, Lézignan, Montagne d'Alaric, Quéribus, St-Victor, Serviès, Sigean and Termenès. Of it was in 2005 classified the Boutenac Subappellation. It can be expected to follow that other be. The grape mix is slightly different for each municipality. Over 90% are produced in red wines. Red and rose wines are from 40 to a maximum of 60% Carignan, at least 25 to 35% Grenache, and Syrah Llladoner Pelut, a maximum of 20% Cinsault, and Mourvedre, Picpoul, Macabeo, Bourboulenc and Terret blended. The white wine is made from Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc and Macabeo (at least 50%) and Clairette, Muscat Blanc, Picpoul, Terret, Marsanne, Roussanne and Vermentino. Well-known producers are Aguilloux Château, Château La Baronne, Domaine de Sainte font, Lastours, Château des Ollieux, Château les Palais, Château la Voulte-Gasparets, Domaine du Vieux Parc and Domaine de Villemajou.
