The most important grape varieties
The appeal lies to the west of Wine Country Provence To the east includes the large AC Côtes de Provence at. It is named after the city lying north of Marseille. Aix-en-Provence in the 15th Century as the "king of wine" René of Anjou (1409-1480) a stronghold of the arts and wine from this area is famous even then. The Count of Provence, was named by the introduction of wine at the French court. The painter Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) spent in the city most of his life and the beautiful countryside immortalized in his paintings. Southeast of the city lies the small AC Range . The vineyards cover 3,800 hectares in 49 municipalities in the department with the exception of two Bouches-du-Rhone lie. The Appellation Les Baux-de-Provence forms an enclave.
The red wine is blended from Grenache Noir, and a maximum of 40% Cinsault, Counoise, Mourvedre, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan (the latter two grades up to 30%). When rosé are also allowed up to 10% Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Ugni Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. The white wine is made up of a maximum of 70% Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Vermentino, a maximum of 40% Ugni Blanc, and a maximum of 30% Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Well-known producers are Chapoutier , Château Barbe Belle, Chateau Bas, Château de Beaupré, Château de Calavon, Château de Calis Anne, Domaine de Coste Bonne, Château de Fonscolombe, Château de la Gaude, Chateau Pigoudet, Château Revelette, Mas Sainte Berthe, Domaine de Saint-Julien-les-Vignes, Château and de Sulauze Domaine de Trevallon .
