Named after the town Ancenis appeal lies to the east of the French wine-growing region of Loire, an enclave of large area Pays Nantais . The former VDQS area was classified only in the year 2010 as an AOP. It is almost identical with the area of Muscadet . The vineyards cover 260 hectares of vineyards on the banks of the upper reaches of the Loire in about 30 municipalities of the departments of Maine-et-Loire and Loire-Atlantique, between the cities of Angers and Nantes. It produced four one varietal wine types that must bear the name of the grape on the label. The rosé and red wines make up about 80% of production and are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Gamay, and a maximum of 5% of Teinturier blended Gamay and Gamay de de Chaudenay Buze. The white wines are produced from Pineau de la Loire (Chenin Blanc) and Malvasia (Pinot Blanc). Well-known producers Jacques Guindon, and Domaine Domaine des Galloires are the Génaudières.
