Appellation in the southern section of the wine region Rhone . Until the 2008 vintage was the Côtes du Luberon (the reason for the renaming is the clearer identification of the consumer). The far south of the section lying area is named after the Luberon Mountains and was first classified in 1988. The recognition is mainly the merit of the millionaire Jean-Louis Chancel, with the wines of his 125-acre vineyard Chateau Val-Joanis set high quality standards. The vineyards cover 4,000 hectares in 36 municipalities. The red wine must contain at least 60% Syrah and Grenache (of which at least 10% Syrah), a maximum of 20% Mourvedre, Cinsault and Carignan, and 10% (or individually) Counoise, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Picpoul exist. The Rosé has similar provisions. The white wine is blended from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Vermentino and Ugni Blanc (maximum 50%), and a maximum of 20% Roussanne and / or Marsanne. Cave de Bonnieux are known producers, Chateau de la Canorgue, Domaine de la Citadelle, Château de l'Isolette, Chateau Val-Joanis, and La Vieille Ferme.
