Named after the city Frontignan appellation lies on the Mediterranean coast in the middle of the wine region Languedoc . It is one of the oldest vineyards in France. Even Pliny the Younger (61-113) raised in his letters to the culturally and historically significant "bees wine" out. Even then, must have been produced that is a sweet wine, but as the inventor of vin doux naturel is the famous physician, Arnald of Villanova (1240-1311). The Muscat de Frontignan was the first vin doux naturel collected in the AC-rank. He is considered the best of the four VDN appellations in Languedoc. With all the variety may only Muscat Blanc can be used. The species is herein referred to as the wine as well as Muscat de Frontignan. The wine must have at least 125 g / l residual sugar and 15% by volume alcohol content. There is also a version in which the Spriten already done prior to fermentation. This Vin de liqueur (VDL) is even sweeter. Well-known producers are Cave Bel-Favier, Domaine du Mas Rouge, Muscat de CV you Frontignan, Château de la Peyrade and Château de Stony. The other three VDN appellations in Languedoc are Muscat de Lunel, Muscat de Mireval and Muscat de Saint Jean de Minervois. In the wine-growing region adjacent to the east Roussillon , there is the VDN appellations Banyuls , Maury , Muscat de Rivesaltes and Rivesaltes .
