The most important grape varieties
Named after the small town located in the appellation of Côte de Beaune in the Burgundy Côte d'Or . It connects the village of Volnay on. The Cistercians had here in the 12th Century vineyards. The priest Claude Arnoux, Claude (1695-1770) has described in his famous book this wine. The vineyards cover 313 hectares. There are pressed almost exclusively red wines from Pinot Noir, with shares of Liebault Pinot (a PN-clone) and Pinot Gris. As a reason, that they among the best known of Burgundy count is repeatedly referred to the easy to pronounce name. This alone would be unfair to refer to them as they are also undeniably the best. There are approximately 30 128 hectares of Premier Cru vineyards. The best locations include Chanlins, Epenots, Fremiers, Jarolières, Pézerolles and especially (in terms of quality Grand Cru really worthy) Rugiens. Well-known producers are Bichot (Domaine du Pavillon), billiard Gonett, Boillot, Pommard Chateau, Comte Armand, Hospices de Beaune , Lejeune, Domaine Leroy , Machard de Gramont, and Pothier Montille-Rieusset.
