DOC for dry red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region Umbria . The area includes the municipalities of Assisi - the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), Perugia and Spella in the province of Perugia. The Grechetto must contain at least 85% of these species, the remaining 15% must be approved white varieties. The Bianco is blended from Trebbiano (50-70%), Grechetto (10-30%), and other permitted white varieties (up to 40%). Rosso (also called Novello) and are produced from Sangiovese Rosato (50-70%), Merlot (10-30), and other permitted red varieties (40%).
