The named after the village appellation is part of the Côte de Beaune in the Burgundy Côte d'Or in the neighborhood communities Meursault and Monthélie . The 135 hectares of vineyards also include areas of the municipalities and Petit Auxey Melin. Two-thirds are red wines (Pinot Noir, with shares of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liebault) and one third white wines (Chardonnay, with shares of Pinot Blanc) produced. There are nine premiers crus with 32 hectares of vineyards, the most important are Bréterins, Climat de Val, Duresses, and Écusseaux Reugne. An alternative appellation for red wines is exclusively Auxey-Duresses-Cote de Beaune.
