The most important grape varieties
The famous capital of the Côte d'Or in the southern part of Côte de Beaune is considered the wine capital of the French Burgundy (the political capital, Dijon ). The city was already by Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) was founded as a Roman camp, and was to the 13th Century, the seat of the kings of Burgundy. By Duke Philip the Good (1396-1467) Nicolas Rolin in 1443 founded the world famous "Hôtel Dieu" (God's Hotel), the Christian Hospices de Beaune . The annual here Auctions (Auction) of wine for charitable purposes is now a world event. In the 18th Century originated in the city's first major wine trading houses such as Champy (1720) and Bouchard Pere et Fils (1721). The city is still surrounded by walls and undermined by numerous wine cellars. The same appellation Beaune comprises 414 hectares of vineyards, produced by the 90% red wines from Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot shares of Liebault. The few white wines are made from Chardonnay with proportions of Pinot Blanc. There are no grand crus. Of the 40 Premiers Crus vineyards with 322 acres of the most famous Avaux Bressandes, Cent Vignes, Champs Pimont are, Clos des Mouches, Clos du Roy, Fèves, Greves, Marco Netts, and Teurons Vignes Franches. Well-known producers are Andre, Besancenot-Mathouillet, Bichot , Bouchard Pere et Fils , Joseph Drouhin , Hospices de Beaune , Jadot , Louis Latour , and Morot Tollot-Beaut.
