Also known as the Bergerac appellation is named after the town east of Bordeaux. It has approximately 13,000 acres of vineyards, the largest wine growing region in Southwest France . The 90 wine-growing communities are located in the southeast of the department Dordogne along the same river. Bergerac has as one of the first areas classified late-1930s as AC. This was already in the 1st Century by the Roman viticulture and reached an average age of the monasteries of the Benedictine and Cistercian heyday.
