The red grapes (also Klosterneuburg, 181-2, 181-2 Zweigeltrebe) is a new breed of x Blue Portuguese BlaufrÃ¤nkisch. The crossing was made â€‹â€‹in 1923 by Dr. Fritz Fritz Zweigelt at the Viticulture Institute of Klosterneuburg (Lower Austria). The early to mid-late maturing, high yielding grape is resistant to botrytis , but prone to genuine Mildew and Stem necrosis . It provides color-rich, almost black, velvety red wines, the BlaufrÃ¤nkisch like aroma that frequently than Teinturier be used (Dyer grape). This variety is mainly cultivated in Austria, where she finished in 2009, over 900 hectares of vineyards. In Germany it is grown on three acres.
