The rarely as Cotes du Cabardès et de l'Orbiel named appellation wine growing region in the far west of Languedoc (in some sources it is the wine growing region of Southwest France imputed). The vineyards cover over 500 hectares in 18 communities north of the city of Carcassonne. It represents a special case because of Bordeaux grape varieties may be blended with the typical southern French grape varieties. This exemption was granted in 1999 because of the particular climatic conditions (a mixture of Mediterranean and Atlantic climate) and on the basis of the particular soil type. Red and rose wines are made at least 40% Grenache Noir, Syrah and Cinsault (the latter up to 20%), and a maximum of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Fer produced (Aubun, Carignan, Mourvedre, Négrette, Picpoul Noir, Terret Noir is not allowed). Well-known producers are Domaine de Cabrol, Château de Pennautier, and Château Château Rivals Ventenac.
