The most important grape varieties
DOC (dt hill at the upper Tiber) for dry reds, rosé and white wines in the Italian region Umbria . The zone includes both sides of the upper Tiber valley lying communities Citerna, Citta di Castello, Gubbio and Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Montone, Perugia, San Giustino and Umbertide in the province of Perugia. The wines from this area already praised Pliny (61-113) at a summer residence. The Bianco is made from Trebbiano Toscano (75-90%), Malvasia del Chianti (up to 10%), and any other permitted white varieties (up to 15%). Rosso and Rosato are blended from Sangiovese (55-70%), Merlot (10-20%), Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia del Chianti (up to 10%) and other approved varieties (up to 10%).
