The most important grape varieties
DOC for a wide range of red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region Lazio . The expanded area includes 38 municipalities in the province of Viterbo, including the provincial capital. The varietal wines must be produced from at least 85% of the variety in question, the remaining 15% can be approved varieties of the same color. The unmixed types are Canaiolo, Grechetto (synonym for Greco Bianco), Greghetto (synonym for Grechetto Rosso), Merlot, Moscatello (from Moscato Bianco), Moscatello raisin, Procanico (Trebbiano), Rossetto (Trebbiano Giallo), Sangiovese Rosato and violone (Montepulciano). The Bianco is blended from Procanico = Trebbiano (40-80%), Malvasia Toscana (30%), and any other permitted white varieties (up to 30%). Rosso (also called Novello) and Rosato are produced from Sangiovese (50-65%), Montepulciano (20-45%), and any other permitted red varieties (30%). Most types of wine are aged in Secco and Amabile and also produces a sparkling wine.
