Of the whole Italian region Sicily comprehensive DOC field was introduced in 2011 and replaced the former IGT Sicilia. There are 23 registered indigenous and international grape varieties. Exist when you give the grape on the label, the wine of at least 85% of that sort. Wines without notice must consist of at least 50% four fixed Leitsorten, each of which shall occur alone or in blends. For these are Catarratto Bianco, Grecanico, Grillo and Inzolia, for Rosso and Rosato Frappato, Nerello Mascalese, Nero d'Avola and Perricone. From the introduction of the new DOC Sicilia wines carry the country now on be called IGT or IGT Terre Siciliane Avola.
