The appeal lies in the wine growing region of the Loire , near the mouth of the river into the Atlantic. The former VDQS area was classified in 2011 as an AOP. The vineyards cover about 480 hectares in 19 municipalities of the department of Vendée. There are four sub-areas brakes may lead Mareuil, Pissotte and Vix, whose name also privileged communities. The name "Fiefs Anciens du Cardinal" (former fiefs of the Cardinal) refers to Cardinal Richelieu (1585-1642), who estimated the wines from this region. There are mainly red and rose wines from Gamay and Pinot Noir (zum. 50%) and Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Négrette and max. 15% Gamay de Chaudenay produced. The white wines are Chenin Blanc (zum. 50%), Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Melon de Bourgogne and blended Groslot Gris. Well-known producers are Domaine de Barbinière, Domaine de la Cambaudière, Clos des Chaumes, Domaine Coirier, Ferme des Ardillers and Michon.
