Name for the famous hills north and south of the town of Alba (Cuneo province) in the Italian region Piedmont . The hills rise up to 600 meters above sea level, and there are cultivated in clay and loam soils, on the bottom including the local grape varieties Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo. In the 1990s the same DOC area for dry red and white wines was created. The zone covers about 900 hectares with about one hundred communities. For the variants Bianco and Rosso in any mixture allowed the permitted white and red varieties are used. The white Arneis, Chardonnay and Favorita, and the red Dolcetto, Moscato and Nebbiolo are pressed at 100% varietal wine from the varieties concerned. This region has the DOC / DOCG areas Alta Langa , Barbaresco , Barbera d'Alba , Barolo , Dolcetto d'Alba , Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba , Dolcetto worthy , Dolcetto delle Langhe Monregalesi , Nebbiolo d'Alba and Roero . These wines may be marketed under the less significant partly Langhe DOC designation.
