The most important grape varieties
The appellation is an enclave in the north of the AC Côtes du Roussillon in the wine growing region Roussillon . The mostly terraced vineyards cover 1,700 hectares of vineyards in the eponymous town Maury and parts of neighboring communities. Here is a sweet, fortified Vin doux naturel in red, pink, white and tawny (amber) produced. It is made from Grenache Noir (at least 75%, previously 50%), Macabeo (10%, previously 15%), Carignan, Cinsault and Syrah Listan Negra (10%) and Grenache Blanc, Muscat Blanc, Muscat of Alexandria Tourbat and blended. The AC Maury Rancio applies to wines aged in oak barrels, which are exposed to sunlight. This gives them the typical Rancio . Mas Amiel-known producers, Domaine de la Coume du Roy, Jean-Louis Lafage Cave, Cave de Maury, and Domaine Maurydoré Pouderoux. Other well-known appellations in the Roussillon VDN are Banyuls , Muscat de Rivesaltes and Rivesaltes .
