Meyer-Näkel
The estate is located in the municipality in the German region Dernau Ahr . Attached is the last 200 years in family-owned Gutsschenke "Hofgarten". The current owner Werner Näkel studied sports and mathematics. In 1982 he took over the family business and operational wine for now only as a sideline. This was then expanded by two acres to its present size. He started with long maceration times and barrel-expansion experiment. From the late years of the 1980s as "red wine wizard" called Werner Näkel was involved as an innovative wine makers instrumental in today's high quality level of the Ahr. In 1989, won the first of many wine prices already now. Together with Neil Ellis was founded in 1996 in the South African wine region of Stellenbosch, near Cape Town, the winery "Zwalu" (Eng. "New Beginning") was founded. Together with Bernd Philippi (owner of the winery Koehler-Ruprecht in the Pfalz) and Bernhard Georg Breuer (owner of the winery in the Rheingau), with whom he had previously worked together on some projects, Werner Näkel founded in 2000 in the Portuguese Douro Valley, the estate "Quinta da Carvalhosa".
The Ahr vineyards cover 13 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Herb Berg (Walporzheim) Hardtberg and parish Wingert (Dernau), and Sonnenberg (Bad Neuenahr). They are planted with the varieties Pinot Noir (10 acres), Early Burgundy, Riesling and Dornfelder. The wines aged in oak blends include "blue slate" and "S", and the dry reading of the parish Wingert and mountain herbs, all of which are filled until September the following year. A special feature is the hellgekelterte "illusion" of Pinot Noir. There are also distilled spirits. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German VDP).
