The named after the village appellation south of the town of Bergerac is an enclave within the larger area Bergerac in South West France . The name derives from Mont Bazailhac (Fire Mountain or Goldberg) from. In this area there were already in the 11th Century, vineyards and the wine was exported to Rome. Later served as French ambassador this wine "wine of peace" and the statesman Charles-Maurice Talleyrand (1754-1838) he proffered the Congress of Vienna (1813-1814) to his guests. The vineyards cover 2,500 hectares. The extremely long life-style dessert wine Sauternes is blended from noble rot grapes of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Well-known producers are Domaine de l'Ancienne Cure, Château de-Belingard Chayne, Château Bellevue, Château la Borderie, le Château Fage, Grande Maison Domaine, Domaine du Grand Marsalet, Château de Monbazillac (CV), Château Petit Paris, Château Poulvère and Château Theulet.
