The most important grape varieties
DOC in a wide range of dry red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region Piedmont . The zone covers 137 communities in the province of Alessandria, and 146 municipalities in the province of Asti. The varietal red Dolcetto (also called Novello) and the white Moscato and Cortese Casalese be produced from each species (at least 85%) with other permitted red or white varieties (up to 15%). The Chiaretto (also claret = Rosato) is in any blend of Barbera, Bonarda Piemontese, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dolcetto, Moscato, Grignolino, Nebbiolo and Pinot Nero (85-100%), and other approved varieties (up to 15%) blended. For Bianco and Rosso in any mixture allowed the permitted white and red varieties are used.
