The most important grape varieties
DOC for a wide range of red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region (island) Sicily . The zone includes areas of the municipalities Camporeale, Corleone, Roccamena, Monreale (eponymous), San Cipirello, San Giuseppe Jato, Piana degli Albanesi and Santa Cristina Gela in the province of Palermo. The varietal types must contain at least 85% of each variety, the rest can be approved varieties of the same color. These are Ansonica or Inzolia, Cabernet Sauvignon, Catarratto, Chardonnay, Grillo, Merlot, Nero d'Avola or Calabrese, Perricone, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Syrah. The Rosso is blended from Calabrese (Nero d'Avola) and / or Perricone (50-100%), and other permitted red varieties (50%). The Rosé is produced in any desired mixture of Nerello Mascalese, Perricone and Sangiovese (70-100%), and other permitted red varieties (30%). The Bianco is made from Ansonica (Inzolia) and Catarratto (50-100%), and other permitted white varieties (up to 50%, of which a maximum of 30% Trebbiano). All red wines are also known as Novello, and two years of age and 12.5% alcohol content as a reserve produced. All white wines are also called Vendemmia Tardiva (late harvest), and with six months of age and 12.5% alcohol content than Superiore generated.
