Morstein
Single location in the village Westhofen (range Wonnegau) in the German wine-growing area Rheinhessen . She was already in 1282 in a deed to the Cistercian Ottersberg in the Palatinate as "Marstene" called. The name is not derived from "Moor", but on "Marstein", which probably points to a landmark (landmark). The south-facing vineyards at 140-280 meters above sea level with up to 20% slope comprise 144 hectares of vineyards, which extend from Gundersheim to Westhofen. Only about 50 acres in the middle of this slope are huge position as privileged. The limestone deposits with Tonmergelboden in the top layer consists of massive underground, water-bearing limestone. The upper layer consists of heavy clay marl with limestone deposits. Here are cultivated mainly Riesling, Dornfelder, Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Noir. Shares in a position to have as the wineries Friedrich Groebe , Gerhard Gutzler , Hirschhof , Klaus Keller , Klaus Knobloch , Seehof Ernst Fauth , Edmund Winter and Philipp Wittmann .
