The Port house based in Postage (Suburb of Vila Nova de Gaia) in the Portuguese area of Douro was founded in 1842 by Eduard Kebe. The family immigrated from the Netherlands Niepoort joined in 1847 and took over the company after the death of the owner. There is still a fifth generation family owned and run by Dirk van der Niepoort. He discovered during an internship at Moevenpick in Switzerland his interest in fine wines. Under the name "Redoma" a red wine and white wine made from indigenous varieties. The red wine "Batuta" is made from old vines and aged in oak barrels.
