In the south of mainland Greece , the island with about 21,000 square kilometers (Greek Morea). It is through the 1881-1893 man-made six-kilometer-long narrow channel separated completely from the land of Corinth. In the Peloponnese are the strongholds of ancient culture, such as Epidaurus, Mystras, Mycenae, Olympia and Sparta. Even in ancient times this was a thriving wine culture. On the southwestern tip of the seaport Monemvasia Who was in the Middle Ages a famous hub for sweet dessert wines, and from which the name of the grape family Malvasia derives. In the Peloponnese around a quarter of the Greek wine is produced.
