DOC area of dry red wine in the Italian region Calabria . The area encompasses the six communities Cassano allo Ionio, Castrovillari, Civita, Frascineto, San Basile and Saracen at the foot of the 2,100-meter eponymous Monte Pollino in the province of Cosenza. The wine is blended from varieties Gaglioppo (60-100%), Greco Nero (20-40%), and any mixture of Guarnaccia Bianca, Malvasia Bianca and Montonico Bianco (up to 20%). With an alcohol content of 12.5% vol and an aging of two years should he Superiore call.
