The most important grape varieties
DOC for dry red wines in the Italian region of Trade Marks . The zone between the Adriatic coast and the Apennines includes the towns of Ascoli Piceno, Castignano, Montedinove, Montelparo, Santa Vittoria Matenano and Venarotta in the province of Ascoli Piceno, and the municipalities Gualdo, Monte San Martino, Penna San Giovanni and San Ginesio in the Province of Macerata. The wine produced here is considered a "modern form" of the Pliny the Elder (23-79) noted ancient wine Hadrianum . The red wine is made from Sangiovese (60-100%), Montepulciano (40%), Trebbiano (15%) and Passerina (15%) blended. The Novello is produced from Montepulciano (35-70%), Sangiovese (30-50%), and any other permitted red varieties (15%). The Sangiovese must consist of at least 85% of that sort. In the southern part of the zone will Superiore with the same mixture as the Novello and alcohol produced from 12% vol.
