The most important grape varieties
DOC for dry red wine in the Italian region of Tuscany . The zone includes vineyards in the town of Montepulciano in the province of Siena. The wine is made from the Sangiovese clone Prugnolo Gentile (70-100%), Canaiolo Nero (up to 20%), and any other approved varieties (up to 20%, of which more than 10% white Malvasia excluded) produced. Compared to the same field coming from the DOCG wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano it is easier (minimum alcohol content of 11.5% vol.) and allowed to expand from 1 March of the following crop year, are marketed.
