Südburgenland

The Austrian wine region is one of four of the federal state of Burgenland , and includes 499 hectares of vineyards. From the 12th Century, especially the monastic orders of the Cistercian contributed much to the development of viticulture. It extends south of the mountain country Günser and lies on the border with Hungary . The Pinkataler wine road leads from the largest wine-producing town of Rechnitz in the north along the Hungarian border via the towns of Eisenberg with Riede Szápari and German gunners the vineyards Carnival , Ratchets and Weinberg (Riede Austria) to the south. Other well-known wine-growing communities are Eberau, Guessing, Hannersdorf, Heiligenbrunn (Uhudler community with Uhudler wine shop), Moschendorf (with wine museum and wine cellar Uhudler) and Strem.

Burgenland differs from the climatic conditions of the northern wine regions, mainly due to higher rainfall. The mild Pannonian climate is characterized by intense solar radiation. After the phylloxera struck in the early 20th Century here the birth of a rustic, southern Burgenland specialty Uhudler . The regional wine association Weinidylle Südburgenland is marketing activities and quality-enhancing measures.

Well-known producers are head Steiner , , Krutzler Reinhold , Uwe Schiefer , Schützenhof , Gerald Unger , Vinum Ferreum Eisenberg , Monitored Wiesler , Gerhard Wallner , Alfred Weber and Franz Weninger . With the 2010 vintage was the entire vineyard comprehensive source-level quality-controlled Eisenberg DAC introduced. These red wines from Blaufränkisch can be produced as a Classic or reserve. The Blend is based on the 2009 survey conducted Weingarten. Compared to the last survey in 1999, the proportion of red wines has risen from 43% to 53%.
