Südsteiermark

The Austrian wine region is one of three of the state of Styria , and includes 2340 acres of vineyards. The wine history dates back to the fourth century BC. The climate is characterized by Pannonian and Southern influences. The rainfall is twice as high as in Burgenland and Lower Austria . The warm, humid weather favors the spread of Botrytis . As soil types predominate shale, sand, marl and limestone soils.

The Blend is based on the annual survey conducted in 2009 Weingarten. Compared to the last survey in 1999, resulting in the varieties no major changes. Unlike the other red wine trend in Austria there was a slight increase in white wine-share. The two varieties: Chardonnay (Morillon also here) and Pinot Blanc are collected together in southern Styria. The total vineyard area increased by one third of 1,739 hectares to 2340 hectares:
