The most important grape varieties
One of the six famous churches (besides Listrac-Medoc , , Moulis , Pauillac and ) Within the French area of Haut-Médoc, their own appeals, and all bearing the local name on the label must. To appeal to some 900 hectares includes the neighboring Beychevelle. A special feature is that it is in the community, a 16 acre enclave is great, the wines of origin designation Pauillac allowed to wear. Another, that historically the famous Premier Cru Classé Château Latour would include (Pauillac) to St-Julien. The floors are made of a thin layer of gravel with sandy loess on an iron-containing subsoil with clay and gravel. Here are at least eleven of the 61 châteaux (with 85% of municipal area), in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855 and the list of the best quality and most expensive wines were included.
These are the five Deuxièmes (2nd place) Château Ducru-Beaucaillou , Château Gruaud-Larose , Chateau Leoville-Barton , Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases and Chateau Leoville-Poyferré , The two Troisièmes (3rd place) Chateau Lagrange (St Julien) and Chateau Langoa-Barton , And the four Quatrièmes (4th place) Château Beychevelle , Château Branaire-Ducru , Château Saint-Pierre and Château Talbot (See complete list of all 61 under Medoc ). The Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases is one of the so-called "Super Seconds" from which many of my wine-expert, that it would create in a (theoretically) playing the new classification Premier Cru Classé. Furthermore, there are a number of cru bourgeois estates such as Château Bel-Air , Château du Glana and Château Gloria , as well as many Cru Artisan classification. The red wines are tannic and long-lasting in style between those of Margaux (ref. finesse) and Pauillac (relative strength), they are distinguished in the whole area by a uniformly high quality.
