The most important grape varieties
The great wine appellation in the region Loire includes 36 municipalities and is named after the city. About the city on a hill a castle perches of tufa, in the 14th Century, was built and is considered the most beautiful Loire chateau. It is the wine of Brotherhood "Brotherhood of the Chevaliers du Sacavins" used for their ceremonies and events. Saumur is situated between the appellations of Anjou (wines with very similar) and Touraine . The vineyards with about 2,800 hectares of vineyard located on the slopes of the rivers Loire and Thouet. The red wines and white wines under the appellation of Saumur or even Anjou produced (though not vice versa). The dry to sweet white wines are Chenin Blanc (at least 80%), Chardonnay (maximum 20%) and Sauvignon Blanc, dry red wines from Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvignon or with shares of Pineau d'Aunis grapes. The rose wines are produced in Anjou Rosé and Cabernet de Saumur.
