Already undertaken by the Celts founded French community on the Loire was by the Romans in 50 AD, BC, called after the herbs growing there soap "Saponaria", which derives its present name. The same area was classified in 1952 as an appellation. and is an enclave within the AC Anjou . Even at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), the wine was famous, but was then expanded sweet. The vineyards cover 120 hectares in three municipalities Bouchemaine, La Possonnières and Savennières. Sorted from the Chenin Blanc dry white wine gives the expanded shale and red clay soil-specific character. Known producer Château de Chamboureau, Château d'Epire, Château de Plaisance are, Château de la Roche-aux-Moines , Clos de Coulaine, Domaine des Baumard, Domaine du Closel, Domaine des Forges and Domaine Laureau. There are two special and therefore classified as separate documents, called appellations Savennières Coulée de Serrant (7 ha) and Savennières Roche-aux-Moines (19 ha). See under Coulée de Serrant .
