The wine in this continent until the arrival of Spanish and Portuguese conquistadors early 16th Century established (see also New World ). Hernando Cortez (1485-1547) was found in Mexico while native varieties, but the Aztecs was the vinification of grapes unknown. In 1522 there were planted vines imported from Spain. The rapid spread of viticulture in the other South American countries occurred mainly by religious reasons by the need for altar wine . In some cases you can find in the Tropics areas of this region or at least the wine producing grape table or Raisins .
