DOC region for dry white and rose wines in the southern Italian region of Tuscany in the countryside Maremma . The zone includes areas of the municipalities Manciano, Sorano (the eponymous district Sovana) and Pitigliano in the province of Grosseto. The genuine types Aleatico Superiore, Superiore Merlot, Sangiovese and Sangiovese Superiore Superiore must contain at least 85% of each variety, the rest can be authorized red varieties. With an aging two years in oak barrels and another six months in the bottle can name all four of the reserve carry. The variants Rosso Superiore Rosso and Rosato are blended from Sangiovese (50-100%) and other red varieties (50%).
