Staufer
The white variety is a new breed between Bacchus x Villard Seyve 12-375. The crossing was made by Dr. Gerhardt Alleweldt Gerhardt, Erich (1927-2005) at the Institute for Grapevine Breeding Geilweilerhof Siebeldingen-Palatinate. The name was given by the German noble family of Swabia (as first name Silva was scheduled, but was rejected because of confusion with the Silvaner). The resistance to downy mildew is high, against Real Mildew well. The Plant Variety Protection was granted in 1994. In 2009, the vineyard in Germany, only one hectare. The greenish yellow, fruity wine is in the taste between Silvaner and Riesling.
