The winery "Ornellaia" located in the town of Bolgheri, in the Italian wine region of Tuscany . The vineyard area totals 62 hectares of vineyards on rocky, calcareous soils. They are located near the Ligurian coast in the immediate vicinity of the area famous Sassicaia (Bolgheri Sassicaia). It was founded by Lodovico Antinori created (a younger brother of the famous Piero) in 1981. When creating the first vineyard (previously forest and pasture land) and construction of the cellar of the famous Russian-born winemaker Andre was Andre Tchelistcheff (1901-1994) served as a consultant. Also provided support to the French Starönologe Michel Michel Rolland , later, the famous Hungarian winemaker Tibor Gál Tibor (1958-2005) several years winemaker.
The first vintage was 1985, however, were the first wines sold only in 1988. Those were the white wine "Poggio alle Gazze" Sauvignon Blanc and 15 to 18 months in barrique wine "Ornellaia" Cabernet Sauvignon (main component), Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The second one was due to the Sassicaia to the fact that in the DOC Bolgheri and the Rosso DOC honor came. The second wine is called "Le Serre Nuove", which matures over its "big brother" shorter time. Similarly, the two wines IGT's "Masseto" (Merlot), which is considered one of the best varietal Merlot at all and "Le Volte" (Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon) are. In 2002, the estate in equal shares by the multinationals Mondavi (California) and (Italy) acquired. Following the sale of Mondavi in 2005 to Constellation Brands Frescobaldi took the true right of first refusal and took Ornellaia to 100%. Lodovico and Piero Antinori Bolgheri built close to the new winery Bibbona.

Preserved black berries and some plums on the nose, spicy and malted notes, light mineral traces, light nutty notes, smoky, spicy oak. Full-bodied and juicy on the palate, very ripe fruit, creamy and buttery, oak, chocolate notes, ripe, predominantly mature tannins, persistent, good depth, still young, very ripe fruit as well as sweetish oak and chocolate on a very good, warm, creamy finish.

Deep nose, still undeveloped, cassis, cherries and a hint of red berries, mineral and herbaceous traces, touch of malt, light spicy oak. Full-bodied, creamy and juicy on the palate, very ripe partly preserved and partly candied dark fruit, mature tannins, very creamy, herbaceous notes and mal sweets, very good persistence and depth, tart roasted notes, very big body, very polished, still very young, quite a long finish.

Deep nose, partly preserved black berries, cherries and some red berries, animal notes and some spicy oak, herbaceous and cool mineral notes in the background. Full-bodied and juicy on the palate, surprisingly cool in spite of the noticeable alcohol, dark fruit, elegant acid bite, fairly prominent, mouth-filling tannins, but only slightly astringent, some oak, very good persistence and depth, mineral backbone, still very young, long finish.

Preserved sour cherries and black berries on the nose, smoky and herbaceous notes, light animal and roasted notes, cool mineral notes in the background. Firm on the palate, quite concentrated fruit, fairly prominent acidity, roasted oak and quite fine, but also very prominent tannins, still a little angular, touch of cocoa, some notes of grilled bell peppers, good persistence and has some depth, very full-bodied, still youthful, very good finish.

Very firm on the nose, loads of very ripe but astonishingly cool dark fruit, eucalyptus and some mint, roasted, spicy oak. Very full-bodied, but still relatively cool, dark fruit, roasted oak and chocolate, some more eucalyptus, fairly prominent youthful but also very fine tannins, noticeable but very well integrated alcohol, persistent and deep, quite compact structure but on a grand scale, at this stage is not showing a lot of fine detail, oak still fairly prominent on a long finish.

Very compact, intense and concentrated, very ripe dark fruit, cherries, berries, plums, alcohol, dried berries, sweet leathery notes, some minerals and chocolate. Incredibly concentrated and juicy, tremendous body, huge amounts of very fine tannins, lovely acidity, almost racy on the palate, enormous depth, high in alcohol, becomes more juicy with aeration, fantastic structure, very clearly defined in spite of the full body, still completely undeveloped, very long finish. Needs a lot of time to mature, will probably only show its true potential in six to eight years.

Lots of ripe fruit on the nose, sweet cherries, plums, vanilla, coconut, delicate dark chocolate, some minerals. Firm and juicy, ripe sweet fruit, mineral notes, slightly smoky oak in the background, tannins still present, slightly sandy, very creamy, more sweet, very ripe fruit, persistent on the palate, appears very youthful, great depth on the palate, long fruity finish with mineral notes. At this stage the wine benefits from several hours aeration.
