The most important grape varieties

DOC for red wines in the northern Italian region Lombardy . The area includes the municipalities of Biancone, Buglio in Monte Castione Andevenno, Chiuro, Sondrio and Tirano in the Valtellina valley on the upper course of the river Adda (German Valtellina) in the alpine province of Sondrio. The in 1998 classified as DOCG Valtellina Superiore is made ​​from at least 90% and 10% Chiavennasca permitted red varieties. The 2003 classified as DOCG Valtellina Sforzato (also Sfursat Valtellina) is a dry-developed red straw on the type of wine Amarone from partially rosinierten grapes. It must be pressed from at least 90% Chiavennasca and a maximum 10% permitted red varieties. The late-picked grapes are dried on wooden racks to three months. The grapes are pressed and fermented in February or March for traditional slow fermentation. This is to reduce acid formation and leads special flavorings. The ruby-red, soft red wine has an alcohol content of at least 14% vol, and at least 12 months in wooden barrels.
