The same place named after the local appellation with 226 hectares of vineyards situated in the Côte de Beaune in the Burgundy Côte d'Or between the communities and Meursault . Almost exclusively red wines from Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Liebault units are produced, which are among the best in Burgundy. Even the Cistercian had here in the 14th Century, vineyards and the Dukes of Burgundy , which at that time had a castle here, very popular. His famous book on the Burgundian wines directs Claude (1695-1770), written in Latin with a paean to the wines of Volnay one in which he referred to them as "partridge-colored" and the best wines of the Côte de Beaune. In the 17th and 18 Century was the wine from this community one of the most popular of the Bourbons and the entire aristocracy. There are no Grands Crus. The most important of the 30 Premiers Crus, with 114 hectares of vineyards are Bousse d'Or, Caillerets, Champans, Chenes, Duc, En l'Ormeau, Frémiets, Santenots, waist Pieds and Pousse d'Or. The red wines of parts of some Premier Crus (eg Santenots) located in Meursault , but are confusingly produced by the AC-name-Santenots Volnay. Well-known producers are Marquise d'Angerville, Bichot (Domaine du Pavillon), Jean Boillot, Domaine Guyon, Jadot , Domaine Lafarge Domaine Comte Lafon of, Domaine Rossignol.
