The estate is located in the municipality Assmannshausen in the German wine-growing area Rheingau . The foundation stone was laid by Joseph Kesseler, the wine cooperative in 1924, the former Assmannshausen took over. His grandson, August Kesseler is since 1977 responsible for the estate. He gained practical experience in France, Italy and the United States. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Höllenberg (Assmannshausen) Pfaffenwies and Schlossberg (single location, Germany) , Savior (Lorchhausen), and Berg Roseneck , Berg Schlossberg and Bishop Mountain (Rüdesheim). They are planted with more than 50% Pinot Noir with some more than 70-year-old vines, as well as Riesling and Sylvaner. There is great emphasis on yield reduction with the first Thin out down after flowering and selective hand-picking of healthy, ripe grapes.

The classic red grapes are fermented on the skins after gentle de-stemming in up to a maximum of 1,000 liters containers open. The mash cake is pushed gently by hand. Then the reds 12 to 15 months in oak barrels to be expanded. The white grapes are fermented by gentle pressure in stainless steel temperature-controlled and developed. Due to the strict separation of the individual container is up to the assemblage and bottling the Terroir retained. Are also produced flaschenvergorene sect. The winery is a member of VDP (Association of German VDP) and the German oak forum .

A genuine "Grand Cru" among the First Growths I have tasted so far. Likely to improve further with age.
