The estate is located in the town of Hochheim in the German wine-growing area Rheingau . Wine business, the Sudeten German family since 1648 in the South Moravian Untertannovitz before they emigrated after the war in 1945 after Hochheim. Franz Künstler led for 15 years other vineyards in Hochheim, before finally in 1965 on her own. Since 1988, the company is run by his son, Gunter. In 1996 the winery with 12 acres of vineyards Privy Aschrott was purchased. The vineyards cover 37 hectares of vineyards in Hochheim individual layers Domdechaney Mr Berg Hell , church pieces , Reichestal , And Stielweg stone, earth and white (home cooking). They are mainly with Riesling (29 ha) and planted Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It is a nature-oriented management with, for example Greening and waiver Herbicides . After gentle crushing, the musts for white wines, depending on the situation in wooden barrels or stainless steel tanks and fermented cool slowly. The Rieslings from top vineyards are bottled in large format bottles to 18 liter volume. The red wines after fermentation for a year in large and small oak barrels and will be marketed after a further year in bottle. Are also produced flaschenvergorene sect. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German VDP), as well as gene de metier.

Clear, straightforward, partly candied fruit on the palate, tart mineral notes, light dried herbs and spices, firm and persistent, good substance and has some depth, still youthful, bone dry, shows its origins, very good tart finish, Has shown an excellent development, and will mature much better than originally anticipated.
2010-08-06 (86): Fairly shy, cool nose, elegant, tart spicy vegetal and delicate earthy notes, light mineral notes and floral traces, touch of yellow fruit. Straightforward style, bone dry on the palate, delicate fruit, light spicy vegetal and earthy notes, tart mineral traces, very elegant acidity, good persistence, touch of carbon dioxide, prominent mineral notes on a good to very good finish.

Amber colour. Already well developed, caramel nose, dried apples and stone fruit, oxidative notes. Mature again on the palate, soft, sweet fruit, partly dried apples, citrus and stone fruit, elegant acidity, light bite, fairly concentrated and persistent, mineral notes in the background, delecate vegetal traces, more caramel on quite a good finish. Probably slightly oxidised because of the synthetic stopper, but still charming, and has some life.
2004-01-14 (87): Peaches and ripe apples on the nose, mineral notes. Clear sweet fruit on the palate, extremely elegant, lively acidity, light-bodied, but nevertheless concentrated and persistent, mineral notes, well balanced, very refreshing, long finish.

2004-01-07 (93): Very deep nose, absolutely closed, resting within itself, peaches and citrus fruit, totally dominated by cool mineral notes. Very cool, elegant and juicy fruit on the palate, tart, firm and very elegant acidity, incredible mineral structure that totally dominates the palate, tremendous depth and persistence, very long finish. Needs time to develop, and may still improve.

We clearly underestimated this wine totally in its youth.

It is more restless and less well balanced than it was in its youth, particularly the noticeable sugar content and the rough carbon dioxide are currently detracting from its balance.

2006-11-13 (97): Very deep and incredibly complex nose, very elegant herbaceous notes, ripe apples, peaches, apricot and pineapple, intense spicy mineral notes. Gripping on the palate, very concentrated and full-bodied, yet almost playful thanks to the extremely elegant acidity, crystal clear fruit, delicate yeasty notes, racy, tobacco notes, loads of tart mineral notes, also lots of ripe pears, tremendous depth and overwhelming power, great persistence, excellent balance, still quite closed, vibrant tension, great length. A masterpiece.

Overwhelming fruit on the palate, at a level I have never before seen in a Rheingau wine, extremely concentrated but not at all heavy, although it has a truly mighty body, mineral foundation on which you could build a skyscraper, residual sugar just noticeable, creamy texture, just keeps on going, whatever it shows on the palate pales before the finish: I have never yet experienced such a complex, fascinating, never-ending finish full of character on a dry Riesling. There is nothing to beat the tremendous mineral structure, which is almost brutal and uncompromising, but this is balanced by an incredible amount of the finest fruit imaginable. I can only weep on my keyboard. Needs years to mature.
