The estate is located in the municipality Ürzig (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing area Moselle . The former Cistercian Himmerod is one of the oldest vineyards on the Mosel. Already in 1177 Pope Alexander III confirmed. (1105-1181) the first vineyard property. The monks built during this time, the vault and 1509 the manor house today. During the reign of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) made secularization in 1804 the estate was bought by the family Eymael in Paris. Already in 1717 classified the upper layers of the archbishopric in the first class. At the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, there were the wines Mönchhof highest awards. Jean Eymael was then in 1910, also a founding member of today's VDP (Association of German VDP). Since 1994 it is run by Robert Eymael, acts as manager Volker Besch A guest house is connected. The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vineyards in the layers Prelate and panel (earth), and Würzgarten (Ürzig). They are planted with 100% ungrafted to Part 100-year-old Riesling vines. Since 2001, the vineyards of the winery is also located in Ürzig John Christoffel Erben leased. The wines are vinified at Mönchhof.
