The most important grape varieties
Greek appellation of the wine growing region Epirus on the border with Albania , Which is named after the town some 30 kilometers northwest of Ioannina. The municipality comprises the villages Dafnofyto, Karitsa, Lithino, proto Pappas and the eponymous Zitsa. The vineyards are between 600 and 700 meters above sea level and comprises approximately 400 hectares of arid, calcareous soils. There are varieties Agiorgitiko, Assyrtiko, Bekari, Debina, Chardonnay, Liatiko, Merlot, Roditis, Sauvignon Blanc, cultivated and Vlachiko Xynomavro. Wine is here since the 18th Century operated. From the indigenous Debina sorted the dry, sparkling white wine is made OPAP. Are also produced pink colored sparkling wines from indigenous varieties and Debina Bekari, and Vlachiko Xynomavro, however, does not possess the status of OPAP. Well-known producers are Glinavos (Monastiri Zitsa) and Zoinos .
