Dear menbers,

I think there is no word more widely used in the wine world today
than terroir. What once started in France is used for all wines in
the world now. Everything and nothing can be terroir, but what
displays it really.

Terroir is a play of all natural elements influencing the vines
during their lifes. True terroir wines can be outstaniding. Not only
the big, very expensive wines show terroir. It is the normal drinking
wines that show the real terroir of the growing areas. A good basic
Chablis or a nice medium dry Riesling from the Mosel with their light
elegance, a good bordeaux with the little bit greenish and cassis
Cabernet flavour or a rich and full bodied red from Australia or
California, are showing the typical attributes of the regions. Going
further into the ultra premium wines they additionally show flavours
of the vineyards too.

But a lot of these ultra expensive wines lacking real terroir now,
because they are overoak and overtalked. So let the true wines tell
their story. Not about their terroir, which is nothing but marketing
today, but about their origin!

Best regards

Klaus
