I live in southern Germany and am building a website for internet German
wine sales. (Sorry not to the USA because you still living with the
echoes
of prohibition and it seems US citizens are not allowed to import wine
to
private order direct to their home address like we Europeans can). So
for
your information, Ken - Piesport is a small (and charming) village on
the
river Mosel, a major tributary of the Rhein. It is well known for wine
like
other villlages and small towns, Trittenheim, Cochem, Traben-Trabach ,
Bernkastel, Wehlen and many many others. Each village is in an area
(Grosslage) and the villages themselves have individual vineyards. IT
IS
THE VINEYARDS WHICH ARE IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SPECIFIC GERMAN
WINES !
Don't bother about large firms (of which Sichel may be one, I've never
heard
of them) making large quantities of plonk and blended wines like
Liebfraumilch, Blue Nun, Niersteiner Gutes Domtal, Mosel Blümchen etc.
Names like this are illegal in Germany because they tell you nothing
except
that this is a low quality blended wine with sugar artificially added
for
export markets like the USA and Britain.

The vineyards in Piesport (copied from the official register I have) are
as
follows: (Note all vineyards are prefixed by "Piesporter" (adjectival
form
of Piesport, just as you say 'She's a New Yorker') - Treppchen,
Falkenberg,
Goldtröpfchen, Günterslay, Domherr, Gärtchen, Kreuzwingert,
Schubertslay,
Grafenberg and Hofberger. Goldtröpfchen, the largest, is worked by
several
people and others are quite small.
